Beach Mix

30 Jun

In about an hour Trevor & I will be on the road headed to the Outer banks!  I’m SO EXCITED!  I just love being at the beach, and a whole week off of work is just what the doctor ordered 🙂  I can smell the ocean already…

Things have been super busy for us over the past few weeks between wedding projects/appointments, work, Lax for Trev and Field Hockey for me.  When we get back, things will only start to get busier, so a week in OBX is definitely what we need to recharge!

We’ll be spending the week with some of Trevor’s family, as my family will be packing up for their big move to Georgia.  Trevor’s mom’s family lives in the Midwest so we don’t get to see them very often, it will be nice to catch up with everyone.

We also plan to take advantage of some free labor and put our invitations together 🙂  There are a lot of steps to complete our invitation “suite” so we’re hoping to get everyone in an assembly line and finish them up in a few hours!  I’ll be sure to recap on how this all turns out…I’m sure it will be interesting 🙂

Before we hit the road for the 6 hour drive I had to make sure I put together a new Beach Mix to keep us going!  You need a lot of music for 6 hours, so I won’t list everything….but here are some fav’s, enjoy!

We really like to mix it up if you can’t tell 🙂  Time to wrap things up at the office…OBX here we come!!!

Practice Makes Perfect

28 Jun

I didn’t realize how important getting a hair and make-up trial was until this past weekend.  I really just wanted to get a trial because getting your hair and make-up done by a professional is just fun!

But after my disappointing appointment on Saturday, I was so grateful that I planned a trial.  I want to be clear that the stylists who did my hair and make-up really did a great job and I looked beautiful, but I didn’t look the way I pictured myself to look on my wedding day.

The last thing you want to worry about the morning before your wedding is how your hair and make-up is going to turn out.   A lot of brides hire professionals to handle this stress for them, other brides find is less stressful to just do it on their own.  Whatever you decide to you, all I can suggest is that you practice!

If you’re doing it on your own, purchase a few different products and have your own trial at home.  If you want the professionals to handle everything, make sure you set up an appointment for a test run.

Don’t forget to bring lots of pictures, your veil and/or head piece if you have one, pictures of your dress and even your earrings if you have those too!  Everything helps to give your stylists a good idea of the kind of look you want.

Here are a couple looks I brought with me…

The make-up artist I saw on Saturday didn’t have all of her products with her so she wasn’t able to really show me everything or give me the look I was going for.  She said she would have more available on the day of my wedding, but I wanted to test everything out before hand so I wouldn’t have to think about it the day of.  So that was a bit of a bust.

My hair was beautifully done, but the front was just not voluminous enough and didn’t really have the texture I wanted.  Maybe it was the way I communicated what I wanted or maybe my pictures just didn’t show what I was thinking well enough, but the end result just wasn’t what I was looking for….

So!  My sister made a call to her friend Meghan who has done her hair for her High School dances, she was able to fit me in last night for a trial and I absolutely LOVE what she did!  She really listened to my ideas and understood the look I was going for.  She was fantastic and I’m so excited she is doing my hair on my wedding day.

Meghan was also able to suggest someone else that I could try for make-up so I have a trial set up in a couple weeks.  Crossing my fingers it goes well!

It really just goes to show that practice is a good thing, and it’s better to know exactly what your getting before the big day 🙂

Have you been to Pinterest?

24 Jun

Pinterest is probably one of the coolest sites ever made!  If you haven’t been yet, get going!  You need to request an invitation and once you receive an email to sign up you can start pinning and re-pinning as you please.

For those of you who are newbies, Pinterest is a site where you can search for different photos or add photos you find online to the site by pining them to boards.  Basically like little inspiration boards 🙂  You can create different categories so if you are looking for inspiration to re-design your bedroom or for wedding invitations you can compile everything into one place.

You really need to go check it out for yourself because I’m sure I’m not doing it justice with my description 🙂  But check out my “Sweet Endings” board,  I created this to help organize my thoughts on how I want to display the dessert table at our wedding and ideas on how I’d like our bakery to ice our cakes.

Starting from the top left –,,,,,,,,

It really has been a fantastic tool for me!  As someone who is always saving pictures from web in 100 folders all over my computer, this really keeps me organized.  I hope you love it as much as I do 🙂

Tomorrow I’m off to the salon for my hair and make-up trial!  I’m testing out a salon I have never been to before but has been highly recommended by a co-worker.  We’ll see how it goes!

To update you on my wedding shoe situation…since my last post on this I have ordered yet another pair online.

I bought these beauties from Amazon last week on super sale!  They are super comfortable which is definitely important but, I’m not sure they are dressy enough to be “the” pair.  For the deal I got, I’m probably going to hold on to them for other occasions 🙂

My co-worker just purchased these gorgeous Kate Spade sandals that also happen to come in silver (she was so nice to let me try them on).  The gold ones just went on sale so I’m going to watch for silver to follow suit.

I really think these could be it!

Wedding Madness Begins!

23 Jun

Yesterday was such a crazy day!  I was feeling a little like this…

It started early with a text from my mom at 8am…one of my family members found out that we were not giving them a +1 and they were not happy about it.

Coming up with your wedding guest list is hard!  Not only do you have to decide who you want to invite, but you also have to decide who can bring a guest.  Who am I to judge if my friend will still be with her “boyfriend of the month” 3 months from now?

Trevor and I went into it knowing not everyone will be happy with our decisions, but all we can do is make our decisions based on how much space and budget we have, and who is most important to us.

Everyone’s situation is different, but here are a few tips from some of the experts if you need help 🙂

Next up, the suits.  We finally got everyone sizes together and went to order the suits and they are no longer available!!  Trevor sent me the bad news yesterday afternoon over email and I wanted to just delete the email and pretend it wasn’t true!

I know, this probably isn’t the biggest deal ever.  But it took us SO LONG to decide on the right color gray we wanted our groomsman to wear.  Not only that, but we originally picked out a suit with a vest, you can see here in one of my earlier posts, and there are no longer ANY light gray suits with vests available at Men’s Wearhouse.

Again, not the biggest deal, I know our guys will look great in anything they wear.  Vest or no vest it will work out fine, it’s just another decision we have to make.  I’ll be sure to fill you in on the suits we pick, but to avoid jinxing (yes, I’m 25 going on 7 🙂 ) myself I’m going to wait until we actually have them ordered!

Last on my list of trouble, I got a call from my mom when I got home from Field Hockey about our hotel.  We’ve blocked rooms at one of the hotels near our venue and will have a shuttle running all night so no one will be tempted to drink and drive.

Months ago, my Aunt and my mom booked rooms for my whole family.  Apparently my Aunt forgot about this and went and booked a whole other set of rooms!

I put a call into the Event Director at the hotel, but she isn’t very good about getting back to me, EVER.  So I’m sure this will require many follow ups to get it straightened out, sigh 🙂  So in the words of my mother… “And the madness begins!”

Well, I knew it wasn’t going to be all flowers and sunshine, so if this is the worst that happens I think I’ll be considered lucky 🙂  But if it’s not, I’m ready to take on whatever comes next!

Celebration Weekend – Part 2

22 Jun

Today has been a crazy day and there is so much to share, but I want to post about the rest of my weekend first!  Saturday we celebrated Jane’s last night out as a “single” lady 🙂

For Jane’s Bachelorette Bash we booked 2 hotel rooms in in the city and made reservations at one of Baltimore’s hot spots, Pazo and then planned to hit the bars.

Myself and Jane’s MOH Elizabeth headed to the hotel early to check-in and decorate before Jane and the rest of the girls arrived.  There were lots of streamers, a “pin the junk on the hunk”, and of course we had lots of yummy snacks and cocktails!

As I mentioned last week, I was buying supplies for a craft project for this event…Bachelorette Cups!

These were super easy to put together.  I picked up the pick cups at Party City for $0.43 each.  Bought some zebra ribbon and pink feathers, and with the help of a glue gun and a permanent marker the cups were together in no time!

Once the bride and the rest of the girls arrived we poured some cocktails and had a little lingerie shower for Jane.  She got some really cute stuff for her honeymoon!  After a couple games, including a questionnaire with a video of Jane’s husband-to-be 🙂  We made our way down a few blocks for some more cocktails and AMAZING tapas at Pazo.

Cheers to Jane!!  It was our first cheers of the night…with  many more to come 🙂

We had a few tapas samplings at Pazo then hit the town for a bar crawl in an area called Fells Point.  Jane wanted to do a shot and/or drink at every bar. We didn’t quite make it to every bar in Fells, but we had a great time trying!  By midnight Jane was ready to show off her dance moves so we hopped in a cab to an area called Canton.

After about an hour of shimy and shakin’ we were hot and gross and needed some air.  So we decided to finish the night at a bar with some outdoor seating.  We even managed to make a few friends 🙂

Shortly after our photo shoot with the fireman we picked up two pizzas and made our way back to the hotel.  Overall it was a great night!  Most importantly Jane had a lot of fun.  Only 24 more days until her wedding and I’m so excited to be a part of it!

Celebration Weekend – Part 1

21 Jun

This weekend was full of celebrations!  Starting off with Friday, we celebrated my Dad’s birthday and Father’s day.  Crabs were on the menu!  Along with lots of unique beers and a sundae bar for dessert 🙂  The picture below is just a small portion…We had a whole bushel and of course Trevor & I were the last one’s left picking!

Here is the birthday boy with his birthday balloon 🙂

Instead of a cake we decided to do a sundae bar.  Maryland crabs are steamed in old bay so afterwards something cold and sweet is mandatory!   My sundae was fantastic!

While we were going to town on dessert my Dad was also opening his gifts.  Me, Trevor, my Mom, Brother and Sister decided to do one big gift that would cover Dad’s birthday and father’s day.  So what did we get him?  Drum roll please….

The New iPad2 of course!  As my Dad made clear a few weeks ago, “it’s the #1 gift for Father’s Day this year” 😉  He was pretty excited and was glued to thing for the rest of the night.  My Dad is a bit of a Mac geek so we know he really appreciates a gift like this.  But not as much as we appreciate him 🙂  My Dad really is the best and I couldn’t thank him enough for all of his love and support.  It was great to spend time and celebrate with him!

Celebration weekend continues with Part 2 coming up!

Meeting with your minister

17 Jun

Last night Trevor and I met with Father Mark, the minister at my church.  When I was younger, my parents were really involved with our church and we would go on a regular basis up until around the time I started middle school.  Since then, we’ve been more of a Christmas/Easter family.

I don’t want to speak too much to my religious beliefs/habits because I don’t want to offend anyone!  But just wanted to give a little run down on how our meeting went last night 🙂

Father Mark is new to our church so he doesn’t know my family from when we were regulars 😉 and he obviously doesn’t know Trevor either.  It was great to be able to sit down with him and tell him a little about us and our relationship.  We talked about how we met, what we do for a living and about buying our house.

After getting to know us a bit, we decided to go over the actual wedding ceremony since Trevor and I have never seen it.   Surprisingly of all the weddings we have attended, none have been an Episcopal wedding.

Going through the process made me really excited for our ceremony.  I also feel more relaxed about it now that I know what to expect.  We’ll have 2 more meetings with Father Mark and we have some decisions to make, like choosing our readings.  We’ll be saying our vows before we know it!

After the meeting Trevor and I had to make a pit-stop at Micheal’s and Party City to pick up supplies for a few bachelorette party projects.  Tomorrow I’ll be downtown to celebrate my friend Jane’s final fling before the wedding bells ring!  (I know, super cheesy).  I’m really excited and hope she likes everything we have planned.  I’ll recap more on this next week, don’t want to give anything away to the bride to be 🙂

While I was running around the store like crazy trying to find my supplies, Trevor kept himself occupied with all of the balloons floating around.  He started walking around the store with this one, I don’t think he realized it was a 1st Birthday balloon 🙂  I’m surprised the giant display of candy behind him wasn’t grabbing his attention more than the balloons!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!
