My name is Melissa and I’m 25 years old.  I’m an Account Executive for an online advertising/media company  in Baltimore, MD.  I’m currently planning a wedding, and for the past three years I’ve learned to become a DIYer along with my fiance as we continue to make our home our own.

Trevor is my fiance, my best friend and my future husband!  Trevor and I have known each other since the 7th grade.  We were always just friends and even went to our Senior Prom together.  It wasn’t until the summer before our sophomore year of college that our friendship grew into something more.  After 6 years of a long distance relationship through college and buying our first home together in 2008, Trevor proposed!

The Proposal & Our Plans

Trevor proposed over Easter of 2010 in the Outerbanks where both of our families have vacation homes and where our relationship began.  Our families were down there for a mini spring break and we were all planning to go to our favorite restaurant, Metropolis.  We had been cleaning up the house and laying in the sun all day so I was mess and in desperate need of a shower!  His brother and his fiance asked us if we wanted to go on a bike ride to the lighthouse before dinner so we decided to go.  It was getting chilly and I wanted to make sure I had time to get ready for dinner so I was rushing us along, when Trevor asked to walk over to the bridge that overlooks the sound, the lighthouse and the historic Whalehead Club.  The sun was setting and all of a sudden Trevor was down on one knee!  I was completely shocked and all I could do was cry and eventually say YES!

When we came back home, after we told all of our family and friends the excitement of starting to plan our wedding began!  I want to use this blog to share with you our planning process and what has inspired our rustic elegant theme.  I hope you find everything to be helpful and I hope I am able to learn from you as well!

Our Home

Trevor and I bought our home in 2008.  We got the official news on St. Patrick’s Day and moved in a couple months later.  This had to be the biggest commitment I had ever made, but I was so excited to finally have a place to call home and most importantly the opportunity to share it with someone I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.

Fall 2010

When we first walked through the house the owner was still living there, so it was hard to see everything we would eventually want to change once we moved in.  We have probably done 4x the amount of projects we first set out to do.  But I couldn’t be happier with everything and I’m looking forward to seeing what we do next and I hope you are too!
